Lake Champlain region offers some of the finest bicycling, including a 1,100-mile network known as Lake Champlain Bikeways. It includes a total of 36 loops ranging from 6 to 50 miles, as well as a 350-mile route around the entire lake. The scenic route around Lake George is also available.
All in all road biking is possible on all 14 New York Scenic Byways. And for competitive athletes, there is annual Lake Placid Ironman race, which includes two-loop 112-mile bike course through Adirondack hills culminating in a 11-mile climb up the Wilmington notch. 2013 Ironman will take place on July, 28th.
In non-winter months Whiteface Mountain ski center operates as a mountain bike center, with additional biking trails throughout the valley. Gore Mountain in North Creek offers mountain biking as well. IMBA sanctioned trail system is available near the hamlet of North Hudson, as well as multiple biking trails in Essex county and Inlet area.
