Hudson, Ausable, Moose, Black, Salmon and Sacandaga River offer multiple runnable sections of class I to V rapids. Ausable Chasm has been relatively recently opened for paddling and is a true gem. Hudson River Gorge delivers big on adrenaline but one should be well experienced before attempting it. Class V rapids are to be found on the Schroon River near hamlet of North Hudson.
Spring, especially mid-April, is the best season for whitewater rafting in the Adirondacks, as by mid-summer the rivers mellow considerably.
There are many certified guides and outfitters in the region, which will provide the necessary equipment and safety instruction – all for a quite affordable price.
